As you find your way around Hong Kong you might find it useful to know a few Cantonese phrases and words. If your pronunciation isn't quite up to mastering the range of tones you can cheat by downloading the free HK PDA tourist map/phrases program. A recorded voice will play back some of the most common tourist phrases in Cantonese. There is a PDA version of the 'Mobile Host' scheme, which brings tourist information direct to your mobile phone. You will need to buy a Mobile Host PIN card for HK$60. You get 72 hours of audio access covering (amongst other things) on-the-spot commentaries to the main tourist attractions. You can buy pay-as-you-go local SIM cards from any 7-11.
